What to Expect
RSU Counseling Services uses short-term therapeutic modalities which focus on supporting the student in identifying contributing factors to a current mental state and building skills to better manage relational, mental, and emotional experiences.
Most students work through their current issue in 4-5 sessions.
Why should I utilize counseling services?
College is an exciting time, but it can also be a time of added stress, life changes, and new experiences you don’t feel prepared to handle alone. By engaging in counseling you are provided with tools and skills to manage many daily life stressors and emotions while continuing to successfully pursue your personal and academic goals.
What does RSU Counseling not do?
- We do not provide a formal psychiatric diagnosis under DSM 5 criteria.
- We do not prescribe or manage any medication.
- We do not write or provide letters of recommendation for ESAs.
- We do not provide specialized, intensive, or long-term therapeutic services.
We are happy to provide referrals for any of the above needs to community mental health partners in our area.
All RSU Counseling Services are confidential and records are maintained according to Federal and Oklahoma laws as well as professional ethical standards of RSU Counseling Services staff.
