Bixby resident Ron Bussert has been named the interim vice president for administration and finance at Rogers State University. Bussert will assume his duties effective July 29.
RSU Vice President for Administration and Finance Dr. Mark Rasor was recently appointed by the OU Board of Regents as interim president. Rasor assumed his duties in that capacity effective July 4, following the retirement of longtime RSU President Dr. Larry Rice.
As Rasor serves the university as interim president, Bussert will take over Rasor’s previous duties in a part-time capacity.
“I’m excited to welcome Ron Bussert to the leadership team at RSU,” Rasor said. “He brings decades of experience and will be able to hit the ground running. I appreciate his enthusiasm and willingness to serve Rogers State in this role. His assistance this fall and beyond will be invaluable to us during this interim period.”
Bussert served at Oklahoma State University – Tulsa for more than 15 years as vice president for administration and finance, after serving two-and-a-half years as vice president at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma.
As a CPA and an attorney, Bussert served in several other roles before his time in higher education. He served as the executive director for the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, and audit director as well as ssistant general counsel, both for a large commercial bank in Oklahoma.
He has experience in public accounting, and as director of finance for a small community in Oklahoma.
He has previously served as an adjunct professor in accounting at the University of Central Oklahoma, and as an adjunct at Oklahoma City University School of Law where he taught accounting for lawyers.
“I’m excited to work with Interim President Rasor and the management team at Rogers State University during this transition period,” Bussert said. “Rogers State University has a great team of higher education professionals in place and I look forward to assisting in any way I can to help serve students, faculty and staff during the months ahead.”
Bussert holds both a Bachelor of Science in accounting and an MBA from Oklahoma State University, and a Juris Doctorate from Oklahoma City University.
He has served on many professional and community boards and committees throughout his career, including as president of the Oklahoma Association of College and University Business Officers and president of the Bixby Metro Chamber of Commerce Board.
In 2015, he was named Bixby Metro Chamber Citizen of the Year, and in 2021 he was inducted into the OSU Accounting Hall of Fame as an outstanding accounting alumnus.
Bussert has been married to his wife, Ellen Bussert, for nearly 37 years. The couple has two sons and two daughters-in-law.
