Come one, come all to Big Tent Day at Rogers State University.
RSU welcomes local companies, organizations and industries to promote their business, job availability, volunteer opportunities and more to students at the 2023 Big Tent Day event Wednesday, Aug. 16. The event will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the lawn of the Dr. Carolyn Taylor Center on the RSU campus in Claremore. The event is free to students and participating businesses and exhibitors.
Hosted by RSU Student Activities, Big Tent Day introduces incoming RSU students to Claremore and Rogers County-based organizations and vice-versa. Campus departments also will be participating in the event, during which they will showcase degree options, offer information about student organizations, student employment opportunities and resources, and more.
“Big Tent Day coincides with the beginning of a new academic year and helps new RSU students develop relationships with local businesses and organizations,” said Katie Anderson, student activities coordinator. “We invite local businesses to get involved with this now-annual event as a means to engage with our students in a positive, mutually beneficial way.”
Scheduled to coincide with the first week of classes for the fall 2023 semester, Big Tent Day is an invaluable opportunity for new students to get information and resources to help acclimate them to RSU and the university experience.
“Currently, we have about 45 booths and we’re expecting to have at least 50 by the time Big Tent Day gets here – possibly 60, which would be more than we had at least year’s event,” said Barry Clark, career services coordinator with RSU’s Office of Student Affairs.
Organizations already registered to participate in Big Tent Day include Papa Johns, Rogers County Volunteers for Youth, JobSquad Staffing Solutions, Ignite Campus Ministry, Claremore Industrial and Economic Development Authority, RSU Libraries, RSU’s MBA program, The AMP Station, Hood and Associates, HOPE, Claremore Indian Hospital, Galt Foundation, OK Works, Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs – Claremore Division, Department of Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Oklahoma GEAR UP, Utica Park Clinic – RSU Student Health Center, Paycom, BancFirst, North Park Trinity Baptist Church, Women for RSU, Thrift Harbor/Hope Harbor, RCB Bank, The John Birch Society, OBI – Oklahoma Blood Institute, CREOKS Behavioral Health, Owasso Police Department, Chick-fil-A Claremore, First Baptist Church, Tulsa County, Melton Truck Lines, Oklahoma National Guard, United Rentals, GRAND Mental Health, RSUTV, Cricket Wireless, Safenet Services, Anvil Axe Co., United States Marshals Service, and A New Image Medical Spa.
Complimentary t-shirts, food, beverages, school supplies and more will be available during this event.
“For the new student, Big Tent Day is a great opportunity to connect with businesses and organizations in the Claremore and Rogers County areas – those who are looking for part-time help, interns, etc., but to also learn about the services that are available to them locally,” Clark said. “For companies, this will be the chance to get in front of at least 600 students – new students and returning students – to make them aware of your company or business, of your products or services, and also to identify possible interns or part-time employees.”
Big Tent Day kicks off RSU’s annual Welcome Week activities, scheduled for Aug. 14-18.
