Bill R. Beierschmitt, a recognized educational leader who served as superintendent of the Bartlesville Public Schools, has been named Provost and Chief Operating Officer of the Bartlesville campus of Rogers State University. Beierschmitt, a resident of Bartlesville, will begin his duties at the new RSU campus in downtown Bartlesville on Aug. 1.
“An accomplished educational administrator, dedicated classroom teacher and expert in education finance, Bill Beierschmitt is uniquely qualified to provide leadership at the RSU campus in Bartlesville,” said RSU President Dr. Joe Wiley.
Since 2001, Beierschmitt has served as the chief financial officer for the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education, based in Stillwater. In that position, he has provided financial leadership for one of the nation’s most successful career and technology education systems.
“I am looking forward to joining one of Oklahoma’s fastest-growing universities as we work to enhance RSU’s role in meeting the educational needs of the citizens of Bartlesville and the surrounding areas,” Beierschmitt said.
His tenure as superintendent from 1996 to 1999 was the highlight of a 30-year career with the Bartlesville Public Schools. As superintendent, he provided leadership for a district of 13 schools with more than 6,500 students, 750 teachers and staff members and a budget of more than $27 million. He also served as associate superintendent of schools and assistant superintendent for instruction for the Bartlesville schools. In addition, he was principal of Madison Middle School, Bartlesville Mid-High School and Sooner High School. He was a classroom teacher, specializing in business education, at Sooner High School and Dewey High School, where he also coached teams in basketball, baseball and tennis.
He is a retired member of the Oklahoma National Guard with 21 years of service at the rank of master sergeant. He was senior instructor for the Non-Commissioned Officers School at the Oklahoma Military Academy in Oklahoma City.
He was the recipient of numerous medals and commendations from the U.S. Army. Presently, he is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Jane Phillips Medical Center, Vice Chairman of the Bartlesville Metropolitan Area Planning Commission and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Bartlesville Lincoln Elementary School Scholarship Fund (BLESS).
He is a past member of the Board of Directors for the Bartlesville Area Chamber of Commerce, Bartlesville Public Schools Foundation, Bartlesville Area United Way and numerous other educational organizations, financial institutions and non-profit organizations in the Bartlesville area.
In addition to receiving national and statewide honors and achievements in education, he has presented research in educational leadership and administration at a variety of education and business conferences.
Beierschmitt received a master’s degree in business education with an emphasis in public school administration from Oklahoma State University in 1972 and a bachelor’s degree in business education from OSU in 1967. He is certified as a school superintendent and business educator.
