The Psychology & Sociology Department at RSU provides high-impact learning and practice through the capstone process. This process sets us apart from other majors and programs. All degrees teach you about research, but very few actually have you practice the skills learned by completing human subjects research. Whether you work on a faculty member’s project or your own capstone project, our instructors are here to help you.
All students receive research mentoring from faculty members. Students have presented award-winning research at local, state, and regional conferences. They have also collaborated with community agencies in planning for growth and service provision. This prepares our students for community agency work, research positions, and graduate programs in ways other universities don’t.
Sherrie Sherrick ’17 & ’18, TRIO Talent Search Academic Advisor
“While at RSU, I had the opportunity to be a part of three different research projects. The professors in the psychology/sociology department were helpful and encouraging. They taught me how to input data and interpret the results. The experience I gained from that opportunity has proven invaluable in my current career. I use both of these research-based skills daily at my job as an academic advisor for TRIO Talent Search. An essential part of my job is to use this data and analysis to make changes in our programming and improve services. I am grateful to the psychology/sociology department professors for giving me the skills I need to succeed in my current career.”
