AA in Secondary Education

Department Mission: The mission of the Department of History and Political Science is to support discipline-specific degree programs as well as the University’s general education program.

Degree Program Mission: The Associate in Arts in secondary Education (Social Studies option) is designed to prepare students for a career in teaching grades six through twelve, specializing in Social Science. The program is designed to provide the student with the first two years of general requirements to transfer to a four year program.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Demonstrate broad knowledge of history, political science, and geography.
  2. Demonstrate analytical and critical thinking skills through oral presentations and papers dealing with history.
  3. Demonstrate a broad understanding of general education.

BA in History

Degree Program Mission: The Bachelor of Arts Degree in History is designed to help students develop research, analytical, critical thinking, and oral and written communications skills and competencies.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Demonstrate analytical and critical thinking skills through oral presentations and papers dealing with history.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of world geography to provide the background for lifelong learning and service in a diverse society.
  3. Demonstrate a solid understanding of how historical events have influenced the United States and/or the world.

BA in Political Science

Department Mission: The mission of the Department of History and Political Science is to support discipline-specific degree programs as well as the University’s general education program.

Degree Program Mission: The Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Affairs is designed to provide students with the organizational, administrative, and time management skills to excel in public service and non- profit sectors.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Demonstrate an ability to analyze and critique a variety of approaches to understanding public policies.
  2. Demonstrate an ability to apply knowledge and understanding of different views regarding politics.
  3. Integrate research into one’s understanding and practice of political science.
  4. Apply sills needed in the law or non-profit sector, or with federal, state, or local government trough internships.
