Beginning in fall 2025, RSU will offer Master of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Cybersecurity Policy, Governance and Training degrees.

Rogers State University is now accepting applications for two newly announced master’s degree programs.

Beginning in the fall 2025 semester, RSU will offer Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Master of Science in Cybersecurity Policy, Governance and Training (aka MS in Cybersecurity) degrees. Both degrees are offered at one of the most affordable, lowest overall costs of any university in Oklahoma, while delivering the highest quality instruction.

RSU’s MSN program can be completed online in as little three semesters, with students completing courses in 8-week formats providing time to fully engage in the material. Students who select RSU’s MSN degree can experience the advantages of attending a large university with the individualized attention of a smaller college.

With two specialized tracks – Nursing Education and Nursing Management and Leadership – students can customize their education to meet the evolving demands of the healthcare workforce while enhancing their nursing practice.

“We are so pleased to be offering the Master of Science in Nursing degree,” said RSU School of Nursing and Health Professions Associate Dean Dr. Carla Lynch. “Working, Registered Nurses can earn the MSN in an online format. The nursing education pathway will open doors to the nursing education world, preparing much needed educators for our next generation of nurses. The leadership and management pathway prepares nurses for administrative positions in a wide variety of settings.”

The MSN degree requires a total of 32 credit hours for completion. All MSN students take a shared core of classes totaling 17 credits. Then, for each of the two tracks, an additional 15 credits are completed with courses to each concentration.

The Nursing Education track prepares students to work in academic settings or as a clinical educator in hospital/clinic settings. This pathway emphasizes curriculum development, teaching and learning strategies, assessment and evaluation methods, as well as program accreditation competencies.

The Nursing Leadership and Management track prepares nurses to manage care units at hospitals, attain administrative roles in healthcare organizations and lead a healthcare team. Topics will focus on budgets and finances, staffing, human resources issues, strategic leadership and regulatory compliance.

RSU’s MS in Cybersecurity Policy, Governance and Training program can be completed in just 12 months with a flexible online eight-week course format.

“We are thrilled to offer the Master of Science in Cybersecurity Policy, Governance and Training,” said Technology and Justice Studies Department Head and Assistant Professor Dr. Curtis Sparling. “This program is designed to equip professionals with both technical expertise and strategic leadership skills, but just as important is its flexible online, eight-week course format which allows students to complete their degree in just 12 months, preparing our learners to bridge the gap between IT security professionals and key business stakeholders while also developing ethical, policy-driven cybersecurity strategies.”

This course of study also teaches students how to design and implement training programs to protect against and respond to internal and external cybersecurity threats.

The 12-month, non-thesis program consists of 10 courses (30 credit hours) and provides the essential tools and skills needed to address critical and emerging cybersecurity challenges across private industry, academia, and government agencies.

“Whether you aim to lead cybersecurity teams, develop training programs, or influence policy, our degree provides the essential tools to drive innovation and enhance security in an increasingly digital world,” Sparling said.

The program also serves as a foundation for doctoral studies or teaching cybersecurity courses at 2- and 4-year institutions. Through an applied learning approach, students gain hands-on experience in identifying, assessing and managing risk while developing and implementing proactive cybersecurity strategies to defend, mitigate and recover from cyber threats and data breaches.

With the addition of the new programs, the university will now offer a total of four graduate degree programs, as RSU already offers a Master of Business Administration (MBA) graduate program and a Master of Science in Community Counseling (MSCC).
