Spring Safety Week begins March 10 at RSU, featuring multiple events to promote safety while RSU students are on spring break the following week.
RSU’s Office of Student Affairs wants to help students “spring forward” into safety before spring break, with the return of Spring Safety Week.
Kicking off Monday, March 10, Spring Safety Week is a time of fun and informative activities, held to promote safety and encourage students to make educated, safe choices.
“On Monday (March 10), we will be hosting Sand, Sun and Safety in the DCTC Rotunda from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.,” said RSU Student Activities Coordinator Meg Thompson. “We will be offering mocktails, have free sunscreen samples and have some beach games set up. This event is geared toward showing students that they do not need alcohol to have fun during spring break.”
On Tuesday, (March 11), Take Control Initiative’s Post-Secondary Initiatives Manager Irissa Baxter-Luper will be on campus to speak on body autonomy. Pregnancy tests, contraceptives, and more will be available at this event, scheduled for 3 p.m. in Room 146 in Herrington Hall.
Tulsa-based Take Control Initiative is a resource for all things birth control which seeks to remove barriers and increase access to birth control in Tulsa County and the Tulsa Metro.
“On Wednesday (March 12), we’ll be hosting our Car Checks with CamPo, at which, students can come from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and have their vehicles checked out by our campus police officers before doing any traveling over spring break,” Thompson said. “They will be checking tire pressure and topping off windshield wiper fluid.”
During the car check event, Prevention on the Hill – in partnership with the RSU Campus Police and the Rogers County and City of Claremore Opioid Abatement Project – will also be hosting a drug take back event.
At this event, students will have the opportunity to bring expired or unneeded medication pills to dispose of at the RSU police station. At any time, students can dispose of medication at the station via a locked medication drop box. The box is cleared by the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics routinely.
In addition to pill medication, students can dispose of unwanted sharps. Stericycle, a medical waste disposal and compliance company, will have a presence at this event. Stericycle’s presence is sponsored by the opioid abatement funds.
Rogers State University’s Office of Student Affairs invites all students to participate in this week of activities to be equipped and informed for a fun, safe spring break the following week.
RSU’s spring break will be held from Monday, March 17, through Friday, March 21, during which time, campus offices will be closed.
