Rogers State University faculty members Dr. Sonya E. Munsell and Professor Gloria White recently served as guest speakers for Claremore PEO’s Founder’s Day luncheon, held Jan. 18.

Both members of PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) Chapter CY in Tulsa, Munsell and White spoke to 40 women from Claremore chapters FI and BM about their commitment to education, their friendship, and sisterhood in PEO.

Founder’s Day is a yearly event honoring the seven women who founded the PEO sisterhood on the campus of Iowa Wesleyan College in 1869.

PEO’s mission is to celebrate the advancement of women, educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans, and help women to achieve their highest aspirations. PEO also provides sole financial support for Cottey College, an all-women’s college located in Nevada, Missouri.

To date, the sisterhood has expanded from a small college society to more than 250,000 members internationally.

Dr. Sonya Munsell, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Department of Psychology and Sociology at RSU. White serves as an adjunct professor in the Department of Psychology and Sociology at RSU and is pursuing her doctoral studies.
