AA in Elementary Education

Department Mission: The mission of the Department of Psychology and Sociology is to assist students in developing knowledge and understanding of social, legal, and psychological issues and to operate effectively in today’s legal, social, and culturally diverse community.

Degree Program Mission: The mission of the Associate in Arts in Elementary Education is designed to prepare students for admission into an accredited teacher certificate program in the state of Oklahoma.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Demonstrate proficiency in the intellectual skills needed to advance to a higher degree in elementary education.
  2. Demonstrate proficiency in the practical skills needed to advance to a higher degree in elementary education.

AA in Social Science

Department Mission: The mission of the Department of Psychology and Sociology is to assist students in developing knowledge and understanding of social, legal, and psychological issues and to operate effectively in today’s legal, social, and culturally diverse community.

Degree Program Mission: The program mission of the Department of Psychology and Sociology is to provide a multi-disciplinary degree that stresses competence in written and oral communications and scientific reasoning and thinking skills.  

Student Learning Outcomes: 

  1. Demonstrate knowledge relate to theoretical concepts and explanations about human behavior.

BA in Environmental Studies

  1. Identify and explain the interconnected nature of environmental issues and human activity.
  2. Evaluate and interpret various forms of evidence, stakeholder interests, and political viewpoints in analyzing environmental problems and solutions.
  3. Effectively communicate environmental issues to a variety of audiences in appropriate forms.
  4. Use critical thinking and skeptical inquiry skills to analyze environmental problems and solutions.

BS in Community Counseling

Department Mission: The mission of the Department of Psychology and Sociology  is to assist students in developing knowledge and understanding of social, legal and psychological issues and to operate effectively in today’s legal, social, and culturally diverse community.

Degree Program Mission: The Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Community Counseling is designed to foster and understanding of counseling theories, social issues, and effective counseling practices with a diverse population. The degree will prepare students to work with children, adults, families, and groups in numerous human service settings.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Develop, analyze, and synthesize human subject research utilizing faculty oversight.
  2. Develop comprehension and application of counseling theories to the real world.
  3. Comprehend and apply a multicultural perspective.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of counseling ethics.
  5. Apply counseling knowledge in community settings.

BS in Social Science

MS in Community Counseling

Department Mission: The mission of the Department of Psychology and Sociology is to assist students in developing knowledge and understanding of social, legal, and psychological issues and to operate effectively in today’s legal, social, and culturally diverse community.

Degree Program Mission: The Master of Science in Community Counseling at RSU will provide coursework, practice and supervision preparing students to become professional counselors. Upon completion of the program they will be prepared to sit for the National Counselor Exam (NCE) and the Oklahoma Legal and Ethical Responsibilities Exam (OLERE) required by the Oklahoma State Board of Behavioral Health for application as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) candidate. The program will follow the requirements set out by the Oklahoma LPC Rules and Regulations related to educational requirements. 

Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Demonstrate enhanced abilities in communicating effectively with a variety of populations both in spoken and written language.
  2. Apply counseling theories to real world situations.
  3. Create and implement community-based activities.
  4. Apply a multicultural perspective.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of counseling ethics and apply to real world examples.
  6. Adhere to the Code of Ethics in practice set forth by the American counseling Association.
  7. Analyze and synthesize human subject research and evaluation.

  9. Apply counseling principles in community settings.
