AS in Physical Science

Department Mission: The mission of the Department of Mathematics and Physical Sciences at Rogers State University is to support students in their pursuit of knowledge in mathematics and physical science.

Degree Program Mission: The Associate of Science in Physical Science consists of general education curriculum and courses supporting other departmental programs. In support of the mission of the university, the school, and the department, the degree seeks to provide a solid general education component for all university students, provide curriculum in the physical sciences for students who are preparing for a baccalaureate-granting program, and provide programs of study to students presently in the work force, allowing them the opportunity to continue their education.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Demonstrate competency of basic physical science principles and their applications
  2. Apply problem solving skills through critical thinking and scientific methods
  3. Explain and predict quantitative, analytical and graphical situations.
  4. Demonstrate an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
  5. Demonstrate competency of basic physical science principles and their applications.

BS in Chemical Engineering

  • Demonstrate technical knowledge, skills and expertise of engineering required to provide practical and economically viable solutions in their chosen profession.
  • Recognize, articulate, and solve problems with attention to health and safety, environment and economics
  • Apply their ideas to create and implement practical solutions to engineering problems.
  • Develop technical education and communication skills enabling them to have successful careers in a wide range of industrial and professional environments.
  • Be prepared for rapidly changing technological environments with the core knowledge central to multidisciplinary development and personal improvement throughout their professional careers.

RSU chemical engineering graduates are expected to:

  1. Identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
  2. Apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
  3. Communicate effectively with a range of audiences
  4. Recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
  5.  Function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
  6. Develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions
  7. Acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
