Rogers State University Libraries is currently seeking original creative works to exhibit at its upcoming annual Creative Showcase. RSU students, faculty, staff and alumni from all three RSU campuses are eligible to participate.

Slated to open at 6 p.m. Monday, April 15, in the Stratton Taylor Library, the 4th annual Creative Showcase will kick off with an open house event of original artwork, poetry, and other creative expressions from numerous different voices.

“This year’s showcase centers around uniqueness and diversity – both within ourselves and our environment – and it aims to highlight the talents, voices and contributions of our Hillcat community through a multimedia display,” said Kaitlin Crotty, library director and event coordinator. “Examples of pieces that can be submitted may include, but are not limited to, poetry, paintings, drawings, digital arts, sculpture, mixed media, writing, monologues, song, dance, photography, weaving, quilting and other textile works.

“Over the years, we’ve had all types of works submitted – sound recordings of instrumental duets, music videos, poetry, essay, paintings, sketching, cross-stitch, a quilt mixed media, books, pixel art, digital drawing, a Native American lance, a recorded vocal instrumental song, and photography,” she said.

The library launched the first Creative Showcase event in April 2021, highlighting the work of 17 RSU students, faculty and staff members, with a total of 23 creative submissions.

Entries must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. Monday, April 8, to allow event planners time to display mapping and prepare the information cards to accompany each piece.

After completing the entry registration form, physical submissions may be dropped off at the front desk of the Stratton Taylor Library.

For students at Bartlesville and Pryor, physical entries may be left at the Bartlesville first-floor enrollment center or at Pryor’s main office.

Digital submissions should be emailed to [email protected], also by April 8.

Following the event, physical submissions should be picked up from the Stratton Taylor Library between 8 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, and 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 8. Entries from Bartlesville and Pryor will be returned to their respective locations after the showcase ends.

“Anonymous entries are permitted out of respect for privacy, given that many of the participants often submit work that is deeply personal and touches on subjects they may not be prepared to have their names attached to at this stage of their life,” Crotty said.

Interested RSU Claremore, Bartlesville and Pryor students, faculty, staff and alumni are encouraged to secure their spot in this event by signing up at https://rsu.libwizard.com/f/CreativeShowcase2024.

The 4th annual Creative Showcase will be held from Monday, April 15, through Friday, April 26, in the Stratton Taylor Library on the Claremore campus.
