Rogers State University’s Gary Moller Gallery of Fine Arts will host an exhibit showcasing the work of an award-winning watercolor artist through Feb. 23. The grand opening of the exhibit will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, inside Baird Hall on the RSU campus in Claremore. Refreshments will be provided.
“Toxic Beauty: A Retrospective” will feature select works of Lance Hunter, a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society, and who has received eight awards in national or international watercolor exhibitions. Some of the artwork contains mature themes.
Additionally, Hunter has exhibited oil paintings in the Oil Painters of America National Exhibition, the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society Exhibition, and in the Southern Representational Painters Exhibition. He has received more than 27 awards in national and regional exhibitions for his paintings and drawings.
“Lance Hunter is a contemporary figurative artist, exploring the human form in unique and unexpected ways,” said Steven Rosser, RSU professor of fine arts. “Working in drawings, watercolors, and oils, he has established himself both nationally and internationally. This exhibit serves as a retrospect, showcasing work from across his career.”
Hunter is an associate professor of art at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, where he teaches painting, watercolor and figure drawing classes.
“Toxic Beauty: A Retrospective” will be on display in the Gary Moeller Gallery of the Arts in Baird Hall until Feb. 23. The art gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
