The Rogers State University Jazz Band will present its final concert of the semester on Tuesday, Dec. 4, in the historic Will Rogers Auditorium. The free concert will begin at 7 p.m.
The program will consist of a mix of Big Band and holiday jazz. The band will perform standards such as “Pennsylvania 6-5000,” made famous by the Glenn Miller orchestra, and “Mood Indigo,” a Duke Ellington classic. The band also will present holiday pieces such as “White Christmas,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”
“The band’s performances this semester have been very well attended and received. We’re starting to build up a great amount of momentum for the future of the program,” said Joe Cernuto, band director. The band performed this semester at the Claremore Symphony League Ball, among other concerts.
The band also will perform at the Claremore Christmas Benefit concert on Sunday, Dec. 9, in the Robson Performing Arts Center. Tickets are available by calling the box office at 699-7390.
The jazz band is now an academic class and students can earn credit, Cernuto said. Students interested in joining in the spring semester should contact Cernuto for more information at 343-7723.
