Members of Rogers State University’s Department of Biology recently attended the annual Technical Meeting of the Oklahoma Academy of Science (OAS).
Held Friday, Nov. 10, at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha, this annual event serves as a forum for scientists from across the state to share their research findings and network with professionals in their field. OAS is the primary professional science organization in Oklahoma. In total, 25 faculty and students from the RSU Department of Biology attended the meeting.
The meeting includes oral and poster presentations, with RSU presenting a poster from the capstone project of recent graduate Jessica Burke, detailing the use of biochar in remediating water pollution. As Burke was unable to attend, her work was presented by her mentors, Dr. Cheyanne Olson, assistant professor of biology, and Dr. Craig Zimmerman, associate professor of biology. Other RSU faculty in attendance included Dr. Hannah King, assistant professor of biology; Dr. Mark Peaden, assistant professor of biology; and Dr. Jerry Bowen, professor of biology.
An abstract of Burke’s research will appear in the annual Oklahoma Academy of Science journal.
Oklahoma Academy of Science exists to stimulate scientific research; to promote fraternal relationships among those engaged in scientific work in Oklahoma; to diffuse among the citizens of Oklahoma knowledge of the various disciplines of science; and to investigate and make known the material and educational resources of the state.
