The Rogers State University Jazz Band will perform two concerts during the fall semester.
The first concert will be on Tuesday, Oct. 16, and the second concert will be on Tuesday, Dec. 4. Both concerts will begin at 7 p.m. in the Will Rogers Auditorium on the RSU campus in Claremore. The concerts are free and open to the public. However, donations will be accepted.
“Last year, the inaugural season of the RSU jazz band was a great success,” said Joe Cernuto, band director. “I believe we established a solid foundation for the program on which we will build this year.”
Presently, the band has 22 members, the majority of whom are RSU students. The band contains a balance mix of saxophones, trombones, trumpets, piano, guitar, bass and drums.
The jazz band will continue performing the repertoire of modern Big Band, including standards such as “One O’clock Jump,” a Count Basie standard, “Woodchopper’s Ball,” made famous by Woody Herman, and the Arturo Sandoval Latin Jazz classic “A Mis Abeulos.” The classic big band repertoire will get a boost with modern swing, funk and rock music, as well as original music composed and arranged for the band, Cernuto said.
