Rogers State University students, graduates, faculty and staff from years gone by are encouraged to return to Claremore for the annual Alumni Weekend on the Hill.
Slated for Friday, Sept. 29, and Saturday, Sept. 30, Alumni Weekend on the Hill will feature multiple sporting events, reunion events and more to give alumni the opportunity to reconnect with other former students, faculty and staff and to revisit their memories on the Hill.
Following an informal get-together at McNellie’s Pub in downtown Tulsa Wednesday, Sept. 27, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. for “Hillcat Happy Hour,” alumni weekend tees off in earnest 11 a.m. Friday at the Hillcat Hacker.
“Hillcat Hacker (Golf Tournament) is a fun golf event played at RSU (in Claremore), with golfers having to avoid the ‘hazards’ on campus,” said RSU Director of Alumni Engagement Travis Peck. “The game will feature special-for-the-event non-destructive golf balls and is open to teams of all levels – amateurs, pros and hackers alike, with at least one alumnus per team.”
Peck said this year’s Hillcat Hacker is the largest since his time to serve as director of alumni. As in previous tournaments, prizes will be awarded at the tournament’s conclusion, and certificates and raffle tickets will be awarded to the winning team, with raffle prizes to be awarded at the conclusion of the event.
Hillcat Hacker sponsors this year include Charlie’s Chicken, Rescue Heat and Air, Community Home Health, RCI Insurance Group, Blue Starr Liquor, RCB Bank, BancFirst, Melton Sales, Megen Rhine Consulting, Hillcat Athletics, Leadership Rogers County, Claremore Economic Development, Cedar Point, RSU Foundation, Spectrum Paint, Cox Insurances, and more.
Funds raised from the Hillcat Hacker will be used for the Alumni Endowment Scholarship Fund and for future alumni activities.
On Saturday, Sept. 30, RSU alumni weekend events continue at the 2023 Baseball Alumni Day, with a seven inning Alumni Home Run Derby Game to start at 10 a.m. at the Diamond Sports Complex, followed by the Wall of Honor Ceremony at 11 a.m. The game and ceremony are free and open to the public.
2023 Wall of Honor Class inductees include Michael Fusselman (RHP, 2015-16), Caleb Kohlmeyer (outfielder/first baseman, 2013-16), Mason Marquett (LHP, 2011-15), Andrew Vanisi (outfield, 2015) and the 2005 Rogers State Baseball Club Team.
Saturday night, alumni and current members from RSU’s President’s Leadership Class (PLC) will gather in the Dr. Carolyn Taylor Center Ballroom from 5 to 7 p.m. for the PLC Reunion. PLC members past and present are invited to enjoy heavy hors d’oeuvres, drinks and conversation.
“We’re hoping that this year’s (alumni) weekend will be even more successful, more attended than previous years, and that as many alumni as can will come back and reconnect with the Rogers State community,” Peck said. “It’s a great opportunity for anyone who made memories at RSU to come back to campus, revisit those old memories and even make some new ones.”
