The Rogers State University Jazz Band will hold an open sign-up for interested students and community members from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, August 20, in Baird Hall on the Claremore campus.
“Last year was a resounding success for the first year of the jazz program,” said band director Joe Cernuto. “We had more than 20 musicians involved and performed at two concerts and other community events. My hope is that this year we can further expand our membership.”
The sign-up is open to any RSU student, qualified high school musician or community member. The following instruments are needed for the jazz band: alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, trombone, trumpet, piano, guitar, bass and drum set. Musicians who play other instruments also are invited to sign up.
The band will rehearse on Monday evenings from 6 until 8:30 p.m. in Baird Hall, with three to four performances scheduled during the upcoming academic year. Students who attend the sign-up will be given further information.
In addition, a sign-up for the first-ever RSU Basketball Band will be held in September. The Basketball Band is a pep band that will perform at all home women’s and men’s basketball games.
