Students will find a much larger facility, more classes to choose from and more amenities when the spring semester begins in January at the Rogers State University campus in Pryor.
The expansion of the RSU Pryor campus will be completed soon, resulting in additional classroom and laboratory space and a major increase in the variety and number of classes available for spring, said RSU President Dr. Larry Rice.
“Our mission is to expand the availability of higher education in Mayes County,” Rice said. “We will be able to offer many new classes this spring as a result of our newly expanded facility.”
The spring semester begins on Jan. 12 and enrollment begins on Nov. 3 at the Pryor campus.
Eighteen new classes will be offered this spring in a variety of areas including accounting, art, business, music and theatre appreciation, Spanish and more. Classes in the Cherokee language will be offered on Tuesday evenings. RSU also will bring part of its nursing program to the Pryor campus with a course in dosage calculation.
When students return for the spring semester, they also will find new classrooms, computer labs, offices, and commons areas as a result of the $1.3 million, 7,400-square-foot expansion project. The new wing is adjacent to the existing campus building located at 421 S. Elliott St. and has been constructed to match the existing architecture.
“Our newly expanded campus will result in more class offerings, more places to study and relax, and a state-of-the-art computer lab for students,” said Sherry Alexander, director of the RSU Pryor campus.
Pryor-based Vargas Construction is serving as the construction contractor.
“The Pryor campus is ‘where to start’ your college education in Mayes County. The focus of the expansion is to better serve students in our area,” Alexander said.
RSU is the only four-year university serving the Pryor and Mayes County area and on average more than 300 students attend the RSU campus in Pryor each semester.
The expansion project is being funded by a $300,000 grant from the Oliver Dewey Mayor Foundation in combination with funds from a state higher education bond issue and private contributions.
In addition to the new building, the expansion will include additional surface parking.
