Four prominent politicians and journalists will appear on “The Truth about Political Ethics,” at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, on RSU Public Television.
The original 60-minute program, produced by RSU Public Television, compares the ethical standards of political leaders with the rest of American society. It combines a panel discussion with on-camera opinions of ordinary Oklahoma citizens
RSU Public Television is operated by Rogers State University in Claremore.
The discussion panel includes Brad Carson, CEO of Cherokee Nation Businesses and Member of Congress from 2001-2005; Bill LaFortune, administrative law judge and former Tulsa mayor; Cindy Morrison, reporter and anchor for KTUL News Channel 8; and Wayne Greene, editorial writer for the Tulsa World.
“It’s a subversive idea, really,” said host Jeff Gentry, RSU associate professor of communications. “No broadcast forum has directly investigated whether politicians really are liars and crooks. We tackle the subject head on, and each panelist provides a decisive point of view.”
At the beginning of the program, Gentry asserts that “at the end of this hour you and I will either be energized about America’s political process, or be depressed and wish we lived in Finland. You’ll hear questions that have never been considered in a broadcast forum, and I guarantee there will be surprises.”
The program is organized into three segments: Focus on Politicians, Focus on Media, and Focus on Citizens. Each segment critiques the respective group’s efficacy in fulfilling its civic duties.
RSU Public Television reaches approximately 1.2 million people within a 75-mile radius of the campus and is Oklahoma’s only full-powered television station operated by a public university.
