The Rogers State University Theatre Department will offer two free performances in celebration of April as National Poetry Month Thursday, April 20, Friday, April 21, and Saturday, April 22.
Titled “Come Into the Light of Things: A Year of Joyful Poems for a Stressful World,” performances start at 7:07 p.m. in the Will Rogers Auditorium on the RSU campus in Claremore and run just under an hour.
“In a time full of discord and difficulties, it is often hard to find even the teeniest of laughs in this world,” said Dr. David Blakely, RSU associate professor and theatre program director. “To help alleviate the stress of contemporary problems, the RSU Theatre program presents a short evening of ‘happy poems’ – poems that expound on things that are good and kind and wonderful.
“These poems come in a variety of shapes and sizes and offer the audience a respite from stress and strife,” he said. “We invite everyone to come experience joy, happiness, giving, miracles large and small, and a limerick or two thrown in for laughs.”
Devised, written and performed by the cast of the play, “Come Into the Light of Things: A Year of Joyful Poems for a Stressful World” performances are free to faculty, staff, students and members of the community.
