More than 250 alumni of the Oklahoma Military Academy – the predecessor institution of Rogers State University – will gather for their annual reunion June 1-2 on the RSU campus in Claremore.
The OMA Alumni Association will host the annual weekend of events for alumni and their families, who live across Oklahoma and the nation.
More than 10,000 men graduated from the OMA junior college and high school from 1919 to 1971, when the academy became Claremore Junior College. Today, the institution has evolved into RSU, a major regional university serving more than 4,000 students on campuses in Claremore, Bartlesville and Pryor.
The prestigious U.S. Army 95th Division Band will perform at this year’s OMA reunion. Performances will be held at the cadet memorial service and alumni awards ceremony.
The adjutant for this year’s reunion will be Jack Short of Bixby, Okla., an OMA graduate of 1959. The role of the adjutant, which is a military term for a staff officer who assists a commanding officer with administrative affairs, is to serve as master of the various ceremonies at the reunion.
The reunion will kick off with the OMA Alumni Golf Classic on Friday, June 1, at Heritage Hills Golf Course in Claremore. Tee times begin at 9 a.m. On Friday evening, an opening reception will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Will Rogers Memorial, located across from the RSU campus.
Events scheduled for the morning of Saturday, June 2, include the morning formation, cadet memorial service and fly-over at 9:30 a.m. at the flagpole in front of Preparatory Hall; the OMA Hall of Fame and Distinguished Alumni Induction Ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at Will Rogers Auditorium; and the annual alumni luncheon at 11:45 a.m. at Bushyhead Fieldhouse.
The reunion will culminate with a Saturday evening dinner and dance for OMA alumni and their families at 6 p.m. at Bushyhead Fieldhouse.
