OMA Museum Welcomes Claremore High School Jr. Navy ROTC Cadets

Claremore High School’s Jr. Navy ROTC cadets this week visited the Oklahoma Military Academy (OMA) Museum in Claremore to tour the academy and learn about its history, as well as about programs, opportunities, and scholarships available at Rogers State University.

Museum curator and Air Force veteran Dewey Wilson – himself an OMA graduate – welcomed three separate groups of Jr. Navy ROTC students ranging in grades from freshman to senior in high school, sharing the history of the academy before leading them on a guided tour of the museum.

The Oklahoma Military Academy Museum, located on RSU’s Claremore campus, tells the story of the more than 10,000 cadets who attended the academy from 1919 through 1971. The museum collects, preserves, and exhibits items relevant to the school’s history.

During its day, OMA was hailed as the “West Point of the Southwest.” In September 2022, the museum re-opened to the public following months of renovations and upgrades made possible through donations from OMA alumni, family and friends, and with the support of the Rogers State University Foundation and the University itself.

The OMA Museum is located on the second floor of Meyer Hall at RSU in Claremore. For more information about the museum, visit www.rsu.edu/oma-museum.
