Rogers State University will be at the center of the softball universe this weekend when the Hillcats host a four-team tournament that includes three nationally ranked programs for the RSU Classic at the Hillcat Complex Friday and Saturday.
No. 5 St. Gregory’s, No. 15 Evangel (Springfield, Mo.) and Kansas Wesleyan will join No. 25 Rogers State for the two-day event on the RSU campus in Claremore.
“We’re excited to host such an elite field of teams at our new on-campus facility,” said Dawn Reed, RSU head softball coach. “It’s a great opportunity to showcase our program and the high level of competition will be a good test for our team.”
The four teams will square off in a “round robin” format on Friday and Saturday morning with the consolation and championship games scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
RSU will play Kansas Wesleyan at 11 a.m. and St. Gregory’s at 3 p.m. on Friday. The Hillcats will meet Evangel at 11 a.m. on Saturday with the consolation game scheduled for 1 p.m. and the championship at 3 p.m. All eight games of the tournament are scheduled to be played at the new RSU softball facility located on northwest corner of the university’s main campus in Claremore.
St. Gregory’s entered the week 21-5 and held on to the No. 5 spot in the latest round of national polls. Evangel (22-8) was slated at No. 15 for the second week in a row. Kansas Wesleyan has a record of 12-13 on the season. The No. 25 Hillcats improved to 21-8 after a doubleheader sweep of Oklahoma Christian on Tuesday.
