A spokesperson from Laureate Psychiatric Clinic and Hospital in Tulsa was at Rogers State University in Claremore Monday, Oct. 24, to kick off a week promoting body acceptance.
Licensed Professional Counselor candidate Lauren Branz, who serves as the outreach coordinator in the Laureate Eating Disorders Program, gave a presentation titled “Eating Disorders 101” during the visit to RSU’s campus. Joining Branz was Gabby Taylor, MS, RD, LD, who serves as an outpatient dietician for Laureate.
Body Acceptance Week is a new initiative to promote body acceptance, including body positivity, body neutrality and body liberation for everyone. This initiative is hosted at RSU by the RSU NEDA Campus Warriors, Psi Chi and the Social Justice League.
Research shows that body dissatisfaction is a leading risk factor in the development of an eating disorder. Body Acceptance Week provides education, resources and support for those experiencing body dissatisfaction and its associated risk factors.
NEDA Campus Warriors is a group of students raising awareness for eating disorders on campuses across the country. Psi Chi is an international organization that promotes excellence and service in the field of psychology. The Social Justice League’s mission is to establish and maintain an inclusive environment for all students at RSU, to challenge social conventions and to serve as a catalyst for personal growth and community action.
