Bryce Brimer and Denny Schmickle, assistant professors of Fine Arts at RSU, will present a talk about their experiences in Italy this past summer. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24 in room 207 of the Stratton Taylor Library.
Brimer and Schmickle traveled to Italy with eight students for a month this summer. The group spent a majority of their time living and studying in Montone, a medieval village in the hill country of Umbria in central Italy.
Students took classes in drawing, painting, printmaking and photography taught by the two RSU professors and Rebecca Bacchetti, a Montone-based artist and the program’s on site coordinator. The group also traveled to see world-renowned architecture and art in Orvieto, Assisi, Florence and Rome. The trip to Rome included the Sistine Chapel and the trip to Florence included Michelangelo’s David and the Uffizi which included Sandro Botticelli’s famous paintings the “Birth of Venus” and his “Primavera.”
Brimer said he will talk not only be about the trip itself but about the importance of education abroad. Several students who took part in the study abroad program will join Brimer and Schmickle in discussing their experiences.
The professors plan to show photos from the trip and to talk about plans to take another group back to Montone next summer.
