Rogers State University has announced the highest number of students in its history with 4,227 students enrolled for the fall semester, an increase of nine percent over last year.
“Our record enrollment contributes to the historic significance of the university’s Centennial year,” said RSU President Dr. Larry Rice.
This fall, 349 more students have enrolled at the university compared to last fall’s enrollment of 3,878 students.
In addition, the number of credit hours in which students are enrolled increased by 10.8 percent, signaling more full-time students, Rice said.
RSU has recorded major enrollment increases on each of its three campuses in Claremore, Bartlesville and Pryor, as well as in its RSU Online program.
This fall, a total of 2,666 students have enrolled on the university’s main campus in Claremore, a 7.3 percent increase over last fall.
The largest enrollment increase occurred at the RSU campus in Pryor, where 273 students have enrolled, a 47.6 percent increase over last fall’s total of 185 students. Much of that increase can be attributed to a recent major expansion of the Pryor campus, Rice said. When taking into account students who also take classes on the Claremore campus, 445 students are enrolled in classes at the Pryor campus (duplicated enrollment), an increase of 35.7 percent.
The Bartlesville campus posted a 3.2 percent increase, with a total of 391 students attending at the Bartlesville campus exclusively, compared to last fall’s 379 students. “The enrollment at our Bartlesville campus continues to steadily climb as we add new programs such as business and nursing,” Rice said. Duplicated enrollment on the Bartlesville campus is 599 students, which includes students taking classes both in Bartlesville and at other RSU campuses. In addition, 355 students take classes online exclusively in the Bartlesville area.
The popular RSU Online program grew by 8.1 percent, with a total of 897 students this fall. Through this program, students can select from more than 150 classes and seven degree programs offered completely online. The university also offers “blended” courses which combines in-person and online studies.
“We know that some of this enrollment increase is due to a difficult economy,” Rice said. “The university has responded to these challenging economic times by providing an affordable education and offering programs students need to prepare for tomorrow’s workplace.”
The university focused on recruiting more students from area high schools as well as attracting more adult students through its Reach Higher adult degree program, Rice added.
