Cathy Coomer, assistant professor in the Department of Communications at Rogers State University and general manager of RSU Radio, has been named vice president of the Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association (OBEA) for 2011-2012.
Coomer recently was elected at the group’s annual meeting at the OBEA Student Awards Ceremony in Oklahoma City.
Steve Adams of Cameron University was elected president and Ken Fischer of the University of Oklahoma is secretary-treasurer.
Coomer has been active in the OBEA since 2004, and is the advisor for RSU’s Student Broadcasting Association.
She will present a panel discussion titled “How to Keep Small Broadcasting Programs Afloat when the Economy Tanks” at the Broadcasting Educational Association’s meeting next month in Las Vegas.
“I am proud to be affiliated with the OBEA and to participate, alongside my fellow colleagues and media professionals, to provide our students with the further education and opportunities outside of the classroom,” Coomer said.
The RSU student organization has won a number of awards in TV and radio as well as several scholarships.
Coomer will be automatically nominated to president of the organization in 2012-2013.
The OBEA is an association of broadcast educators and electronic media professionals. OBEA members work closely with the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters to promote broadcast education and professional preparation.
