As Rogers State University prepares for its annual Giving Week, Jan. 24-30, it does so with a feeling of optimism and excitement for the future.
“The past 12 months have been challenging for everyone, especially for our students,” Steve Valencia, vice president for development, said. “They had to quickly adapt to new ways of learning all while dealing with the personal and financial effects of the pandemic.”
As Valencia visited with students, they are looking ahead. They believe tomorrow is going to be better than today. They are the inspiration for the Foundation’s Giving Week theme, “A Brighter Tomorrow.”
Giving Week began last year as a focused effort to reconnect alumni and friends to RSU and encourage them to donate to the RSU Foundation. Giving Week coincides with the University’s homecoming celebration.
Last year, more than $22,000 for scholarships and programs and 42 individuals made their first-ever gift to RSU.
This year, Giving Week will focus on securing funds for the general scholarship fund. This fund provides RSU with the maximum flexibility to provide financial assistance to students with need and limited access to other financial aid programs. Traditionally, RSU Foundation events support this fund, but most were cancelled during the pandemic.
Valencia said he hopes Giving Week marks a turning point for the RSU community.
“Rogers State is emerging as a stronger university,” Valencia said. “The message going forward is one of hope and opportunity. A successful Giving Week will reinforce our belief in A Brighter Tomorrow.”
