Three area art students have been awarded Possibilities Scholarships to benefit their fine arts education at Rogers State University.
The scholarships, in the amount of $1,000 each, were provided by Leonard and Kathy Szopinski of Broken Arrow, who founded the Possibilities Scholarship Program at RSU.
“We believe it is important to advance arts education and support young artists in northeast Oklahoma,” said Leonard Szopinski, who is the director of the physical plant at RSU and a registered architect.
Robedeaux, who plans to attend RSU this fall, was described by Karen St. Clair, her high school art teacher, as someone who “has always shown exceptional ability artistically. She is definitely up for the challenge at RSU.”
The two RSU students receiving the scholarship have chosen to apply it to studying art in Italy as part of the RSU Studies-At-Large in Italy summer program.
Both Walters and Wong have previously been recognized for their work. Walters, from Pryor, is majoring in the Fine Arts – Graphic Design and was recently chosen as a Higher Education Cultural Roundtable Student Art Patron of the Year, among many other honors.
During the fall, Wong added the 2011 Nancy Swindler Art Scholarship and the RSU Italy scholarship to her resume. Wong is from Claremore and majors in Fine Arts – Studio Art.
All three winners will be invited to show their work at the RSU art festival Art On The Hill, to be held September 28-29 on RSU’s Claremore campus.
