I was born and raised in Oklahoma, growing up in Midwest City, where I attended school from kindergarten through senior year. I was a particularly average athlete playing football, basketball, wrestling, and baseball. It was during high school when I really found my niche in being a competitive powerlifter, placing in many national powerlifting meets.
I have had a love of sports my entire life and have always felt like I wanted to have a career in athletics. While attending junior college in Midwest City I was introduced to the career field of athletic training and my adventure began.
I briefly attended East Central University then transferred to the University of Central Oklahoma where I was a member of the athletic training student staff for two and half years.
I graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and attended the United States Sports Academy where I obtained a Master of Sports Science degree with an emphasis in Sports Medicine in 1991.
During my graduate studies, I was the Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Miami covering the football program during the 1990 football season.
I received my certification as a Certified Athletic Trainer in 1992 and began my career working mostly at the secondary school level. I have also spent time working on the professional rodeo circuit and covering tournaments for various sports around northeast Oklahoma. I have had the opportunity to serve as a Football Medical Observer for the Big 12 covering Oklahoma State University football games.
I have been heavily involved in many aspects of athletic training on a state level in Oklahoma, from being a member of the Oklahoma Athletic Trainers Association Executive Committee to serving as the President of the Oklahoma Athletic Trainers’ Association.
While I have received recognition for many things in my career it was my induction into the Oklahoma Athletic Trainers’ Association Hall of Fame that ranks as the highest honor it has been my privilege to receive.
On a personal note, I met my wife Jana in 1987, while attending the University of Central Oklahoma, and we married in 1991. We have one son Brent who has a love for firefighting and is working to begin that career in the U.S. Air Force.
I continue to exercise by walking three days a week and spending time in the weight room whenever possible. I plan on continuing to keep that up as long as possible and hope to begin playing golf again in the near future.
I genuinely enjoy teaching on the collegiate level and look forward to encouraging you as you reach your goals just as my professors did for me. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need help.
