Documentary filmmaker Dan McKeon will be showcasing his bio-documentary “King Cohen,” which tells the story of the film maverick who made acclaimed and eclectic b-movies, during a Nov. 7 stop at Rogers State University.
The documentary screening will be held at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 7, in the Baird Hall Performance Studio on the RSU Claremore campus. Following the presentation, McKeon will hold a question and answer session about the film, film making and other related topics. The event is free and open to the public. “King Cohen” is not rated, but is recommended for mature audiences due to language, violence and adult content.
“King Cohen” examines the work and legacy of independent filmmaker Larry Cohen, best known for creating a string of low-budget horror films that combined social commentary alongside its scares. He also was a pioneer in the blaxploitation films of the 1970s with his movie “Black Caesar.” For more information about the film, visit www.kingcohenmovie.com.
McKeon is a documentary filmmaker with more than 20 years’ experience working with directors and actors such as Martin Scorsese, J.J. Abrams, Eric Roberts, Joe Dante, John Landis, and more. He also will discuss his upcoming project, which is in pre-production, called “Mother Cutters,” a documentary chronicling the lives of women editors working in Hollywood, such as Verna Fields editor of “Jaws.”
The screening is being organized by the RSU Department of Fine Arts.
