RSU Pryor, MidAmerica Industrial Park, and Google have teamed together to develop a technology lab at the RSU Pryor campus to support Oklahoma’s emerging emphasis on applied learning and technology fields.
Please join us for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate Phase One of RSU Pryor’s Tech Lab. The ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 21, at the RSU Pryor campus, located at 2155 Highway 69A in the MidAmerica Industrial Park. Following the ceremony, tours of the Tech Lab will be available and area middle school students participating in RSU’s AeroCamp will hold a drone demonstration.
The RSU Pryor Tech Lab includes computer workstations, three-dimensional printers, and work spaces for building and testing drone technology, including for RSU’s celebrated AeroCats drone team. The RSU Pryor Tech Lab supports existing university technology programs and activities and will support new programs focused on learners outside of traditional degree programs. These programs would include individuals who require additional technology, soft-skills, and/or certifications before entering the workforce or for advancing their current careers.
Skilled trades and applied learning skills are some of the most difficult jobs to fill in the United States, with recent Department of Labor data citing more than 1 million jobs open in trade, transportation, and utilities sectors and more than 315,000 jobs open in manufacturing. Middle-skills employment requiring education and training beyond high school but less than a bachelor’s degree are a significant part of overall economic growth. The Labor Department estimates that 30 percent of the 55 million job openings created in the next two years will require some college or a two-year associate degree.
The opening of the RSU Tech Lab is the first phase in RSU’s ongoing partnership with MidAmerica Industrial Park and Google to help meet the educations needs of business and industry in northeastern Oklahoma.
