Several area students at Rogers State University have been named to the Oklahoma Division of Student Assistance Programs Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame spotlights students who have participated in a TRIO educational opportunity program and demonstrated academic excellence, commitment to education, leadership and perseverance in achieving their educational goals.
The following RSU students have been named to the Hall of Fame for academic excellence, commitment to education, leadership and perseverance in achieving educational goals: David Berglund, Tiffany Karger, David Nichols and Charly Anne Hudson of Claremore; ReAnne Ashlock of Skiatook; and Antionette Bowen of Tulsa.
Ashlock began in the TRIO programs her seventh grade year when she became a participant of Educational Talent Search (ETS). During her ninth grade year, she began the Environmental Science & Math (ESM) program and remained a participant until she graduated high school in 2000. She then started her college career at RSU where she graduated with a B.S. in social and behavioral science in spring 2004. She will be graduating this spring with a M.S. in educational psychology from OSU. Having already been accepted, she will begin pursuing her Ph.D. in educational philosophy at OSU this fall. She has been named to several lists such as Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges, Presidents Honor Roll (both RSU & OSU), Phi Theta Kappa Alumni and Psi Chi Alumni. Most recently, she has been nominated as the 2006 TRIO Achiever as well. She now works as the academic coordinator for Upward Bound at RSU.
Karger, a Student Support Services participant/mentor, received her associate’s degree in legal assisting in 2005 and is currently working toward her B.A. in elementary education at RSU. She has been named to several lists, such as the National Dean’s List, National Academic List, Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, and Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. Her current leadership positions include TRIO Student Organization President, Alpha Sigma Tau recording secretary and fundraising chairman, Student Activities Board secretary, and Student Government Association senator.
Parks, a Student Support Services participant/mentor, is a student working toward his BA in Communications/Radio-Television at RSU. He has been named to several lists such as Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges, Who’s Who Among High School Students and Model United Nations Achievement of Excellence. His community and civic contributions include the Women’s Domestic Abuse Shelter and Child Advocacy Center, as well as donations to the John 3:16 Mission in Tulsa. His current leadership positions include TRIO Student Organization public relations officer, Pi Kappa Alpha, Student Theater Organization representative to SGA, Spanish Club creative consultant; and a producer at RSU Radio.
Nichols, a Student Support Services participant, is a student working toward his B.S. in political science at RSU. He has been named to several lists such as the Dead President’s Society Honor Roll, was the DPS recipient of the T.R. Roosevelt Award and was the Irene Ryan Region VI nominee for acting in the play “A Ghost Story.” His leadership includes SGA, public relations officer and senator, RSU delegation chairperson of the House of Representatives, Intercollegiate Debate member, TRIO Student Organization member, Dead President’s Society president and editor for its website and newsletter, Student Activities Board public relations officer, Student Theater Organization, and College Republicans public relations director.
Berglund is a Student Support Services participant/mentor who will receive his A.S. in psychology in spring 2006 and is currently working toward his B.S. in social and behavioral sciences at RSU. He has been named to several lists such as the National Dean’s List, All-American Academic Scholars, National Scholars Honor Society and RSU Dean’s List for the spring, summer and fall of 2005. His volunteer work includes March of Dimes, Women’s Domestic Abuse Shelter and Child Advocacy Center. His activities include Pi Kappa Alpha, SGA senator; SAB past president, TRIO Student Organization member/mentor and Dead President’s Society member.
Bowen, a Student Support Services participant, is working toward her B.S. in social and behavioral sciences at RSU. She has been named to several lists such as Who’s Who Among High School Students and the RSU Dean’s Honor Roll. Her community contributions include volunteering at elementary schools during summer break to help teachers get ready for fall classes and volunteering for the RSU American Red Cross and RSU Habitat for Humanity. Her leadership activities include chaplin in Alpha Sigma Tau, Campus Crusaders for Christ Leadership Team prayer leader, SGA member, TRIO representative to SGA and SGA representative.
Hudson is a Student Support Services participant/mentor and is working toward her B.S. in biology – medical/molecular at RSU. She plans to continue her academic endeavors at NSU to fulfill her goal of graduating in the spring of 2007 with her second B.S. in science education. Her community involvement includes Sheridan Road Baptist Church where she participates in the pre-school committee, volunteer childcare and youth council and student ministry volunteer. She currently serves as the TRIO Student Organization vice-president.
