During the next two weeks, Rogers State University broadcasting students will air a one-hour radio show wrapping up the spring baseball season and the latest installment of their student television news magazine.
The baseball radio show, “The 10th Inning: A Look at the First Year of RSU Baseball,” will air 6-7 p.m., Friday, April 29, and be repeated noon-1 p.m., Sunday, May 1, on RSU Radio, which broadcasts at 91.3 FM. This is the first full academic year that RSU has fielded a baseball club team, which has been competing against area colleges and universities.
The show will feature a roundtable discussion about the season with the RSU baseball club team coaches, which includes head coach Ron Bradley and assistants Robert Brown, Wes Vrska and Aaron Gentry. The show will include an interview with the new RSU softball coach Dawn Reed, interviews with the players who were named RSU Radio and 1st Bank Oklahoma Most Valuable Players during the spring schedule, and a look ahead at the next season.
The new edition of RSU Magazine will initially air 9 p.m., Wednesday, May 4, on RSU-TV, the university’s television station broadcasting on UHF channel 35, Claremore and Tulsa cable channel 19, and more than 70 cable systems in northeastern Oklahoma and southern Kansas. The show will be rebroadcast at 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 7.
Topics to be addressed on the new episode include the new RSU Honors Program, the 2005 Claremore Graduate Honor Pow Wow, a review of the RSU Foundation’s “Cruisin’ for Scholarships” auction, an examination of “senioritis” and a behind-the-scenes look at the making of RSU Magazine. The show was reported, written and produced by RSU broadcasting students under the direction of broadcasting faculty Dr. Paul Shaffer and Cathy Coomer, and the professional staff at the campus television station. This is the third and final edition prepared during the spring semester.
