When Rogers State University art professor Gary Moeller wants to demonstrate a technique for drawing or painting for his students, he often utilizes a time-honored tool: the chalkboard. So why not take the chalkboard “how-to” sketches and develop a series of paintings?
Moeller has done just that. The resulting paintings, based on his chalkboard demonstrations through the years, will be shown along with art by other RSU faculty members at the annual Faculty Art Exhibition Aug. 15-22 at the Foundations Gallery.
An opening reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, in the gallery, which is located in Baird Hall on the RSU campus in Claremore. The reception and exhibition are free and open to the public.
Moeller used oil pastel and alkyd to create his “chalkboard paintings” on canvas. Also featured in the exhibition will be life-size figurative ceramic sculptures by Carter Hall, who operates the Sculpture Lab on the RSU campus in Claremore. Hall also will be showing several of his black and white photographs. In addition, several computer illustrations by Dave Carman and photographs by Susan Rainey will be included in the exhibition.
Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call (918) 343-7740.
