Mary M. Mackie, who has studied extensively in Native American literature and women’s writing, has been named assistant professor of English at Rogers State University.
Mackie’s appointment was approved recently by the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents – RSU’s governing board.
Mackie will join the faculty of RSU’s Department of Communication and Fine Arts, located in its School of Liberal Arts.
Her teaching interests include Native American literature, 19thand 20th century American literature, 20th century American drama, women’s writing, freshman composition and creative writing.
She has published articles, short stories and poems in a variety of regional and national publications, and edited an interdisciplinary journal of Native American literature and culture for the University of Oklahoma. She has experience as a writer and editor for The Harvard Post and the Bolton Common newspapers in Harvard, Mass., and served as a software technical writer for a Massachusetts computer services company.
Mackie earned a doctoral degree in English from the University of Oklahoma, a master’s degree in writing and literature from Rivier College in Nashua, N.H., a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell and a bachelor’s degree in English from Russell Sage College in Troy, N.Y. She also studied at the University of Kent in Canterbury, Kent, England, as part of the Junior Year Abroad program.
