Two training programs for educators on how to teach online classes and how to teach classes by videoconferencing will be offered in June at Rogers State University.
The programs are sponsored by RSU’s Division of Continuing Education.
“Teaching Online,” a three-week training program designed to prepare participants for teaching in the virtual classroom, will be offered completely online from June 4-28.
This program will cover topics such as instructional design for the web, web-based tools for instruction, graphics development and online interaction between students and educators.
“Participants in the Teaching Online program will gain valuable experience as online learners, preparing them to better utilize web resources in their own online instruction,” said Dr. Jim Atkinson, Dean of Continuing Education and College Relations at RSU.
The program will require approximately eight to 12 hours of online and offline work per week.
“Teaching by Videoconference” is a three-week online training program to be offered from June 4-28, culminating in a one-day session on June 29 at RSU’s main campus in Claremore.
Participants will learn about utilizing basic videoconferencing technology and designing instruction for interaction between students and educators. Participants also will be provided with hands-on instruction with the equipment.
The online portion of this program will require approximately six to eight hours of work per week.
Students may enroll in both courses and complete them simultaneously. Reliable Internet access is required.
A third course, “Administrative Issues in Distance Education,” will be offered at a later date. All three courses comprise the “Certificate Program in Technology Mediated Instruction.”
Each course is worth two continuing education units (CEUs) through RSU’s Division of Continuing Education or the combination of both courses will earn the participant three graduate credit hours through RSU’s School of Business and Technology.
The cost is $400 per person for each course, or $650 per person for both courses. Participants may register online or call the RSU Division of Continuing Education at (918) 343-7533. Class size is limited.
