Students volunteered to clean and maintain Pryor Creek Nature Trail’s Elliott Trailhead.
Volunteers from Rogers State University’s Pryor campus have adopted a local trail entrance as an ongoing community service project.
Members of the Ambassador Mentor Program and Volunteers of Leadership Team Skills, known as AMPs and VOLTS, have chosen to clean and maintain Pryor Creek Nature Trail’s Elliott Trailhead, the start of the trail located just south of the Pryor Creek bridge.
Kevin Dale, a biology senior from Pryor, Tiffany Steddum, a business administration sophomore from Chouteau, Kara McCoy, a business administration junior from Pryor, Sarah McComb, an elementary education freshman from Pryor, Lisa Pate, a business administration freshman from Pryor and Remington Wildermuth, a criminal justice junior from Pryor, worked together to improve the Elliott Street entrance.
The students were led by AMPs and VOLTS advisors Faith Gates and Dana Best.
The volunteers helped clean up trash, mowed and painted the bench around the entrance on May 1. They also put up a new entrance sign, added signage to trees and removed stumps from the trail entrance. Plans are underway to plant bushes and flowers, add gravel, and put in a new pipe fence.
RSU Pryor Campus Director Sherry Alexander said the students thought of the project together and are excited to give back to their community.
