Art on the Hill returns this weekend to the Rogers State University campus featuring area artists displaying and selling their works, along with artist demonstrations, live music, theatre, food and family fun.
The three-day festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from noon to 6 p.m Sunday in Baird Hall on the RSU campus in Claremore. All events are free and open to the public.
Artwork in a variety of media will be on display and for sale in Baird Hall, which is home to the university’s Fine Arts department. Proceeds from the event benefit scholarships for RSU fine arts students.
The three-day festival will feature demonstrations from artists, including faculty from the RSU Fine Arts department faculty.
On Friday, adjunct faculty member Micheal Jones will demonstrate watercolor painting at 2 p.m. and Associate Professor Bryce Brimer will demonstrate wheelthrowing at 4 p.m. On Saturday, Assistant Professor Ahn-Thuy Nguyen will demonstrate cyano type photo printmaking at 1 p.m, while Professor Gary Moeller will demonstrate oil painting at 5 p.m. On Sunday, RSU alumnus Jacob Purdom will demonstrate screenprinting at 3 p.m. Woodturner Jerry Emanuel is scheduled to demonstrate his craft each afternoon during the event.
Two art talks are scheduled for the weekend from Native American artist Amy McGirk speaking at 3 p.m. Saturday and Lynette Trotter presenting “Discovering Impressionism” at 1 p.m. Sunday. Both talks will be in Baird Hall room 116.
Tulsa Repertory Theatre will be presenting its production of “A Year with Frog and Toad” at 1 p.m. Friday in the Will Rogers Auditorium. Children’s arts and crafts activities will be available throughout the weekend. The play performance is free and open to the public, and students from area schools are scheduled to attend.
Members of the RSU Student Art Association are organizing children’s art activities with hands-on, “take home” projects for children of all ages.
RSU alumnus Kalyn Fay Barnoski will be playing music at 4 p.m. Saturday.
An exhibition of works from RSU alumni artists will be featured in the Foundations Gallery in Baird Hall throughout the weekend.
Food and refreshments are scheduled to be provided by a food truck from Molly’s Landing on all three days, and a truck from Papo’s Latin American Cafe is scheduled to be on site Sunday.
