RSU Fine Arts Film Series to Present Oscar-nominated Films in April

The Rogers State University Fine Arts Film Series will showcase films that received or were nominated for this year's Academy Awards.

The films will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Will Rogers Auditorium on the RSU Claremore campus. The movie screenings are free and open to the public as part of the Fine Arts Film Series, sponsored by the RSU School of Liberal Arts.

On April 22, the series will present "August: Osage County," the Oklahoma-based film that examines the lives of the strong-willed Weston family, whose paths have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Oklahoma house where they grew up. Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts were nominated for acting Oscar awards for their performances. A host of other Hollywood talent appeared in the movie, which was filmed in and around the Pawhuska and Bartlesville area. The film is rated R.

The series concludes on April 29 with the screening of "20 Feet From Stardom," which won the Academy Award for best feature documentary for its examination of the lives of backup singers in popular music. The movie is rated PG-13.

The series kicked off on April 15 with "Gravity," which starred George Clooney and Sandra Bullock.
