RSU Providing Free Tax Prep Beginning Jan. 27
Rogers State University will provide free tax preparation services to the public. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program will be staffed by trained and certified volunteers and will be available to any individual making less than $60,000 a year.
The program is open to all communities in the area and appointments will be handled by Claremore-based Community Action Resource and Development, Inc.
Volunteers are RSU students who have successfully completed Internal Revenue Service training and certification exams for federal and state tax preparation. Student work will be reviewed for accuracy by RSU faculty. All students also have achieved ethics certification and signed a confidentiality agreement protecting the privacy of all clients.
"The VITA program offers a valuable, professional service to the community and provides our students a chance to earn the professional hours required to sit for the CPA exam. We guarantee those who take advantage of the free program will receive exceptional service," said RSU business faculty member P.J. Gorden who is administering the program.
VITA will open on January 27 and run through April 14. The program will be closed during RSU's spring break, March 17-21.
Hours of operation are Mondays, noon to 3 p.m. and Thursdays, 4-7 p.m. in Herrington Hall, Room 225 on the Claremore campus. Those with appointments will get priority, but walk-ins are welcome.
Clients must provide the following documents for VITA volunteers to prepare their tax returns:
