P.J. Gorden, Instructor of Business

The Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants has named Rogers State University business faculty member P.J. Gorden as its 2013 Outstanding Accounting Educator, the second year in a row that an RSU faculty member has been so honored.

P.J. Gorden, instructor of business, received a commemorative plaque during the annual Oklahoma Accounting Educators Conference at the University of Tulsa on Jan. 10. Dr. Thomas Carment, RSU professor of accounting, was honored as the OSCPA 2012 Outstanding Educator.

Gorden also will be able to designate an RSU accounting student to receive an OSCPA scholarship.

"It is quite an honor to be recognized by my peers in the industry," Gorden said.

She joined the faculty at RSU for the Fall 2012 semester after serving on the faculty at Northeastern State University since 2002. In addition to being a CPA, she also is a Certified Fraud Examiner, the sole instructor for forensic and fraud major courses at RSU and serves as RSU's staff liaison for the OSCPA.

Gorden earned an accounting degree from the University of New Orleans and an M.B.A. from Northeastern State University.

This year marks the first time at RSU, and sixth time overall, that Gorden serves as site coordinator for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. The program offers free tax preparation for people who make $60,000 or less. Students who prepare tax returns with VITA complete IRS training and certification while receiving course credit.
