RSU Art Exhibit Featuring Renee Dotson, Micheal Jones to Open Feb. 7
The works of Broken Arrow painters Renee Dotson and Micheal Jones will be featured in an upcoming exhibit at Rogers State University's Foundation Gallery. The eclectic show will feature works showcasing a variety of painting media, include acrylics, oils and water colors, as well as several painting styles, including abstract, realism and more.
An opening reception will be held 5-7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 7, in the gallery, which is located in Baird Hall on the Claremore campus. The reception is free and open to the public.
The purpose of this show is to show the variety and the numerous approaches painters can use when painting their subjects, said Gary Moeller, department head and professor of the RSU Fine Arts Department. While both artists are members of the Green Country Water Color Society, the exhibit is intended to expose students and community art patrons to how artists can push the boundaries using various media, he said.
Dotson has allowed her curiosity and creativity to flourish in her art career during the past three decades. In the 1980s, she began attending seminars and art classes at the famous Ghost Ranch Education and Retreat Center in New Mexico. She has built a loyal following for her works, and in 2010 was commissioned to do artwork for the Broken Arrow Area Chamber of Commerce's new office. Her work has been featured in Green Country Watercolor Society, Broken Arrow Arts and Humanities Council's Art After Hours, among others.
Recognized as one of the top watercolorists in Oklahoma, Jones has organized numerous one-man shows of his work, including a retrospective in the Oklahoma State Capitol and a comprehensive exhibit at the Leslie Powell Foundation. An adjunct faculty member at RSU, Jones also has taught extensively at the college and high school level.
The show will continue until Feb. 22. Admission to the gallery is free and open to the public Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
