RSU Fine Arts Film Series to Present "Katy Perry: Part of Me"
The film "Katy Perry: Part of Me" will be presented on Wednesday, September 12, at Rogers State University.
The film, which is rated PG, will begin at 7 p.m. in the Will Rogers Auditorium on the RSU campus in Claremore. It is free and open to the public.
The screening is part of the RSU Fine Arts Film Series, sponsored by the RSU School of Liberal Arts.
The 2012 film is a documentary of the career and recent world concert tour of popular music sensation Katy Perry. Using state of the art camera technology, the documentary has been critically lauded for its cinematography. Dr. Hugh Foley, director of the RSU Fine Arts Films Series, indicated that this is a special showing of this film before it is available commercially.
"This film had a limited released to theaters worldwide, and will not be released to DVD until September 18, which makes this showing an exclusive presentation for the RSU Fine Arts Film Series," Foley said.
The film tells the story of Katy Perry's background of being raised in a conservative Pentecostal family where she was prohibited from listening to popular music. After being exposed to new artists in the popular music realm, Perry was inspired to move to Los Angeles where she began pursuing a musical career that progressed in fits and starts before scoring worldwide hits based on her own creative decisions. Whether one likes her music or not, the film is a bright, state of the art music documentary that bubbles with the trials, joys, heartbreak and resiliency that have played roles in Katy Perry's rise to pop stardom.
"We intend to continue offering films that appeal to a popular sensibility while maintaining high artistic cinema standards or have historic relevance," Foley said.
