RSU Wins Regents' Voter Registration Contest

Rogers State University recently won the 2011 Voter Registration Contest sponsored by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. RSU registered 112 students to vote, achieving the largest group of new voters in its section.

Thirteen Oklahoma Campus Compact member institutions participated in the contest. Schools were divided into sections based on full time enrollment. RSU competed directly with schools with enrollments between 3,001 and 7,000 students: Oklahoma State University IT, East Central University, Oklahoma State University- OKC, NOC Stillwater, University of Tulsa, and Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

RSU's Campus Activities Team facilitated the contest by incorporating it into Constitution Day. Although the university celebrates Constitution Day every year, this was the first year it entered the contest. Alyson Howe, social issues chair for CAT, organized the drive.

"I'm really proud of the students here at RSU," said Howe. "They really took the initiative to exercise their right by registering to vote. Winning the competition is just icing on the cake."

RSU will be recognized for its success in the Voter Registration Contest at the next meeting of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education on Oct 19 at Oklahoma City Community College.
