RSU TRIO Program Grants Renewed for Five Years

The grants funding the Educational Opportunity Center and the Talent Search programs at Rogers State University have been renewed for another five years.

The grants are awarded by the U.S. Department of Education. The RSU-EOC program received an allocation of $592,789 for five years and the RSU-TS received $298,564.

"The goals and objectives of both the Educational Opportunity Center and the Talent Search are in line with the mission set by our leaders in government and higher education calling for an increase in the number of Oklahomans with a college degree," said RSU President Dr. Larry Rice. "I'm proud RSU will continue its legacy of excellence in educational supportive services."

The RSU-EOC program provides counseling and information on college admissions to qualified adults wanting to enter a program of postsecondary education. Among its objectives, RSU-EOC counsels participants on financial aid options and assists in the application process. The goal of the program is to increase the number of adult participants enrolling in, and graduating from a postsecondary institution. All services are provided to eligible participants at no cost.

The RSU-EOC program office is located on RSU's Claremore campus and performs outreach on the university's Bartlesville and Pryor campuses, in Oklahoma City and in rural counties throughout Oklahoma.

The RSU-TS serves northeast Oklahoma middle and high school students who demonstrate the potential to succeed in higher education. The program targets students who meet income guidelines (as defined by the Department of Education) and first-generation college students. Two-thirds of RSU-ETS participants must meet both criteria.

The RSU-TS program serves schools in Chelsea, Claremore, Skiatook and Tulsa by providing academic, career, and financial aid counseling to participants. The program also serves high school dropouts by helping them to reenter the educational system and complete their education.
