RSU Choir to Present Holiday Concert Nov. 30
The Rogers State University Choir will present its annual holiday concert on Tuesday, Nov. 30.
The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Centennial Center Ballroom on the RSU campus in Claremore.
The title of the concert will be "A Festival of Song" and will celebrate the holiday season with music ranging from the compositions of Early American composer Aaron Copland to the modern work of composer and arranger Dan Davison.
The concert will feature Davison's "Come, Ye Ladies and Lairds," and Amy F. Bernon's "Throw Open Your Shutters," both of which have a distinctly Renaissance flair, said Nancy Gill, RSU Choir director.
The choir also will present traditional spirituals and hymns, an arrangement of British carols, and a medley of old American songs composed by Copland, Gill said.
The choir will finish the evening with a performance of "Festival Sanctus," a piece written by composer John Leavitt for the 1988 International Choral Symposium, held at the University of Missouri - Kansas City.
"The choir has been searching for a ‘signature piece,' which can be performed at each of our concerts," Gill said. "The musical complexity of Leavitt's composition meets the criteria of a signature song. It is both challenging and fun for performer and listener alike."
