RSU Jazz Band to Present Concert in New Student Center March 2
The Rogers State University Jazz Band will present its first concert of the spring semester in the Ballroom of the new Student Center at 7 p.m. Monday, March 2. The concert is free and open to the public.
The concert will feature music from many musical eras including Big Band, Latin Jazz, rock and roll and rhythm and blues, said Joe Cernuto, band director.
Big band music will be represented with classics such as "One O'Clock Jump" and "Jumpin' at the Woodside" by Count Basie, he said. Latin jazz will be featured with "Dos Gatos Bailando," and the band will play popular funk songs "Afterburner" and the Blood, Sweat, and Tears classic "Spinning Wheel."
"The band has already had a very busy semester," Cernuto said. "We have performed at the Veteran's Dance and the Claremore Symphony League Ball, and we have more performances planned in the near future, including RSU's Centennial Birthday Celebration."
"The beautiful Student Center Ballroom has proved to be a very accommodating venue for performances," he added. "I'm very pleased at how well our ensembles sound in there. We're looking forward to making the Ballroom a great venue for musical performances for years to come."
Although the concert is free, donations will be accepted, Cernuto said.
