RSU Innovation Center to Present Credit Workshop Feb. 12

Rogers State University's Innovation Center is hosting a workshop "Credit: How it Impacts Your Life and Your Business?" from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12 at the RSU Innovation Center in Claremore.

The workshop will help small business owners and inspiring entrepreneur's gain a better understanding of the business credit relationship.

The workshop will be presented by Mary Thomas, education director Oklahoma Consumer Credit Counseling, Eric Kurtz, senior vice president RCB Bank, and John Linhardt, director of business development RCB Bank.

"We see a lot of small business owners and persons interested in starting a business with a common problem, poor credit. They have a great business idea but need capital to get the business started," said Dr. Ray Brown, vice president of economic and community development at RSU. "Unfortunately most of these entrepreneurs are unable to obtain the financial resources they need to get the business started or keep their existing business operating."

"Many people think they can establish business credit without their personal credit being a factor. It's a conceptual myth that the two can somehow be separate in reality.  If you own a small business, your personal expenses cannot help but affect your business," he said.

During the workshop participants will:

  • be introduced to basic principles and techniques of budgeting and credit
  • gain an understanding of how credit works and how it affects your credit score
  • learn what lenders look at when evaluating your credit score for loan applications
  • discover what you need to do to repair your credit

Advance registration is required.  The registration fee of $15 must be paid at the time of registration. Payment by phone with a credit or debit card is welcome.
